PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION COURSES OFFERED

   If you are looking for public administration courses, San Diego State University’s College of Extended Studies reaches out to you in many ways.

The College offers a Bachelor’s Degree of Applied Arts in Public Administration that may lead to great things for people like you who are seeking a position in the field.

You can earn your degree through intensive 6- to 10- week sessions offered yearround in evening and weekend courses. This program provides skills to government employees, managers of nonprofit and community-based organizations, transportation officials, budget and financial analysts, human resource managers, lobbyists, city planners, and urban affairs personnel.

The following classes are offered in Spring 2007 as part of the degree program in public administration.

The Urban Scene: Key issues in public administration, criminal justice administration, and city planning. Emphasis on government structure and public decision-making process, organizational behavior, effectiveness of criminal justice policies, zoning, and land use consideration.

Investigation and Report: This course covers an analysis of special topics.

Concepts and Issues in Public Administration: Theory and practice of government administration in differing environments, role of administrations in public policy, issues facing administrators, techniques of administration.

Methods of Analysis City Planning: Methods of primary data collection and analysis of secondary data sources for problem-solving in city planning, techniques associated with urban design and urban development.

Budget and Financial Administration in the Public Sector: Management trends in public sector financial administration; budgetary procedures and techniques; control and monitoring systems. Cash management, capital projects management, debt administration, disbursement, funds management, and auditing are also covered.

Introduction to Urban Planning: An introduction to community planning; regional, county, and city consideration of the master plan including its purposes, contents, and methods of adoption. The College also offers weekend courses on American Youth Gang Culture; Crime and Film; Growth in the San Diego Region: What Can and Should Be Done About It?; and The Impact of Forensic Science on the American Criminal Justice System.

We offer a wide variety of lifelong learning classes, seminars, and certificate programs. Career advancement courses are offered in management, leadership, and quality improvement while self-enrichment classes range from astronomy to web design. Additionally, the College offers over 35 certificate programs and online courses.
